Shelf Life and Spoilage
Unlike many other fine chocolates available on the market, Carter's Chocolates are made with only fresh cream, premium chocolate and natural
flavorings ~ with no preservatives! Therefore they are intended to be consumed within 7 days of purchase, whether from Carter's store in Port
Orchard or fine retailers such as the Chocolate Box in down town Seattle or Whole Foods on Westlake.
When storage is longer than intended, especially at improper temperatures, spoilage may occur. This is usually in the form of mold that might grow
between the outer shell and the soft creamy center.
This is distasteful and unsightly, but at least it is not dangerous.
Please be advised that our truffles are at their very best within one week of being handcrafted, and deterioration of quality may begin soon after.
While all efforts are made to ensure that only the freshest truffles are shipped or sold, occasionally there may be one that reaches the final customer in
less than satisfactory condition.
We would like to be informed of any instances of this happening.
Please email: matt@carterschocolates.com for personal attention.
Return Policy
We want everyone to have a great Carter's Chocolates experience, and satisfaction is guaranteed under the following conditions:
Carter's Chocolates are packed for cool weather shipping, of three days or less.
From October 15th to May 1st, we ship anywhere in the 48 US states via USPS priority mail, with delivery confirmation.
Weather conditions of over 75 degrees f. can affect the condition of our fine chocolates - which are made using no preservatives, only fresh cream,
organically grown chocolate, and natural flavorings - therefore we do not take responsibility for weather-related deterioration during shipment to warm
locations.
After May, we will ship overnight, with some expensive packaging that will cost in excess of $35 in total.
Please email to make those arrangements: matt@carterschocolates.com
If, during our shipping season, you receive your Carter's Chocolates in less than satisfactory condition, please call 360-876-4424 or email
matt@carterschocolates.com within one week of receiving your package for immediate and personal attention.
Liability is limited to replacement of defective product only.
Restitution will be made to purchaser, within one week of purchase, either in person at Carter's Chocolates, (1700 SE Mile Hill rd #255, Port Orchard,
WA 98366), or we may choose to provide a code for replacement of defective product via this webpage. Shipping not included.
Thank you!
Donation policies:
Carter's Chocolates is happy to have the opportunity to donate to as many charitable organizations as we can!
There are so many people and groups in need these days that it is impossible for us to offer them all a donation, and unfortunately
there is no cash available at all.
Donation requests for gift certificates towards chocolate items or ice cream made at our shop, will be reviewed and decisions
made based on criteria such as proximity to Port Orchard, as well as budget concerns.
Fund raising events that could include large quantities of Turtles or barks for resale are easiest to accommodate.
Please send requests via email to
matt@carterschocolates.com
Shipping policies:
Chocolate Season, the time of year with the most reasons to buy chocolate, runs from Halloween through Mother's Day, which
happily coincides with the best weather for shipping in the Northern Hemisphere.
During the months of November through April, we will ship to any address in the continental US, with no additional packaging or
charges, via US Postal Service Priority Mail. So far we have had no problems with packages getting to their destination, and they
are faster and less expensive for the customer than any other carrier.
From May through October, all risk of damage due to heat will be yours!
We do not recommend ordering our fine chocolates to be shipped anywhere during the summer months.
During May and October, we let people decide for themselves whether to order, based on temperatures where they are.
Chocolate doesn't like being over 75 degrees even for a moment; it'll be pretty much ruined if it gets that hot - at least appearance
wise.
If we ship to you in Florida or Texas in May, and your package arrives in three days (guaranteed by USPS Priority Mail) and sits in
the sun on your porch or in your mailbox til you get home in the evening, this is what you may expect:
After you find your overheated box and put it in your fridge, you might end up with a messy box of mixed up flavors merging
together (worst case scenario), or you might just have white speckles all over everything.
White speckles indicate that the chocolates have gotten a little too hot, and have gone out of temper. The speckles are simply fat
that has melted and come to the surface. It is still fine to eat, you just might want to shut your eyes.
Even if its all melted, swirled together and hardened back up in the fridge, its probably still fine to eat.
If the shipment takes a few days at temperatures above 65, there is a possibility that mold will form on the inside of the chocolates.
Cut into each piece with a knife before eating.
We don't take responsibility for either appearance, mold, or other damage caused by heat or delays during shipping...
we make the chocolates fresh and send them out fresh!
